In her early years, Jiang Yue sponsored Lu Chen, a boy from the mountains; the two married, and she later took in Lin Wanwan, a girl living in poverty. Unexpectedly, Lu Chen and Lin Wanwan began a secret affair, which resulted in the death of Jiang Yue’s unborn child. They then conspired to drain Jiang Yue’s mother’s company of its assets and staged a fake car accident to make it appear as though Lu Chen had died, after which he vanished for eight years. During those eight years, Jiang Yue suffered immensely, plagued by guilt over the loss of her husband and mother and struggling with severe depression. Eight years later, Lin Wanwan boasted online, revealing the deception the two had orchestrated all those years ago and exposing the truth. By then, Lu Chen had become the owner of a publicly traded company. To protect his company’s stock price, he visited Jiang Yue and tried to bribe her into keeping quiet, but she refused. Lin Wanwan sought malicious revenge by destroying Jiang Yue’s home and ruining her career. Jiang Yue hired a lawyer and, using her marriage certificate and the death certificate as evidence, proved in court that their marriage was still legally valid. The court ruled that all of Lu Chen’s assets accumulated over the past eight years were marital property, and froze all of his assets. With Lu Chen’s company on the brink of bankruptcy, he took his anger out on the pregnant Lin Wanwan. Lin Wanwan attempted to embezzle a massive sum from the company and flee, but during a heated argument, she suffered a miscarriage. She then handed over the USB drive containing evidence of Lu Chen’s embezzlement of Jiang’s assets as leverage. To clear himself of charges, Lu Chen provided evidence of Lin Wanwan’s corruption, leading to her indictment. With his back against the wall, Lu Chen committed a violent crime with a weapon and was arrested on the spot by the police. Faced with irrefutable evidence at trial, Lu Chen was sentenced to life imprisonment for embezzling massive assets and bigamy, while Lin Wanwan received a fifteen-year prison sentence. Jiang Yue recovered all the assets, revived her mother’s company, established an educational scholarship fund, and finally moved past the pain of her past to start a brand-new life.
