After seven years of marriage, I finally got pregnant, a miracle given my husband Austin’s low sperm count. We’d been together a decade, and I cherished this baby deeply. But when his first love Nicole visited wearing perfume I was allergic to, I turned down her care for the baby. That night, I was trapped in a broken elevator for three days, terrified by my claustrophobia. Rushing home afterward, I overheard Austin telling a friend I’d deliberately hurt unstable Nicole and deserved to be taught a lesson. My heart shattered—he’d done this to me on purpose.
