Lyra Moore and Caspian Thorne had been childhood sweethearts. Their families had been on good terms for generations, and a verbal engagement had bound her for twenty years. She had thought this was love—until Caspian Thorne got into a fight for his new lover Aurelia Vance and ended up at the police station, abandoning her on a snowy night. That night, she knocked on the door of Gideon Thorne—the illegitimate son she had bullied as a child, yet the man who had always protected her from the shadows. From taking her in to growing closer, from his gentle care after she got drunk to embracing her in the snowstorm at the ski resort, Gideon Thorne taught her what it meant to be cherished with his patience: “I can wait, but you can’t keep running.” Meanwhile, Caspian Thorne fell into desperate pursuit after losing her, yet his selfishness only proved time and again that he was unworthy. As family pressure, schemes, frame-ups, and secrets about his identity struck one after another, Lyra Moore finally dared to take Gideon Thorne’s hand, responding to his obsessive devotion: “From engagement to marriage, until death—no one else.”
