Heartbroken by his constant neglect, she vanishes on the eve of their wedding, spending eight years forging a fierce and independent life. Fate intervenes when Torin suffers a severe head injury in battle, erasing his memory of the last eight years. He awakens believing they are freshly engaged and deeply in love. Brought back to aid his recovery, Elara refuses to play the devoted bride for free—she coldly charges him by the hour!
