Rowan is a top-notch post-mortem makeup artist; Adrian is the ruthless, arrogant heir of the Blackwood fortune. The two get entangled after working on a body restoration case. In their time together, they see through each other's hidden ambitions and brokenness, which sparks a dangerous, irresistible attraction. Yet Adrian’s deeply ingrained class pride and cold demeanor keep Rowan—who longs for honest love—hesitating again and again. They have a total falling out in front of the old Linton estate. Adrian leaves with a cold remark, walking away decisively, and their relationship hits rock bottom. When old Mr. Blackwood humiliates Rowan at a funeral for stock market gains and forcibly spreads rumors of a marriage arrangement, Adrian finally loses control. Behind everyone’s back, he storms the boardroom, overthrows his father’s authority, risking the entire family legacy just to cut off his father’s hand reaching for Rowan. Finding out the truth, Rowan shows up in full glamour at Adrian’s inaugural dinner. In front of New York’s elite and countless cameras, Adrian, the new board chairman, abandons his speech and publicly surrenders to Rowan, offering all his wealth and choices with both hands. In the end, Rowan follows her heart, and they share a passionate kiss under the flashbulbs. As morning sunlight hits Manhattan, their trial-and-pain temporary game comes to an official end, and the two souls remove their masks, welcoming a brand-new beginning all their own.
