Cole has spent three years as a live-in son-in-law in the Hawkins family, a wealthy New York dynasty. He has always played the role of a gentle and submissive husband — handling daily chores, managing the household's trivial affairs, and even secretly solving multiple business problems for the Hawkins family, saving them from huge financial losses. Yet he has never been looked upon with any respect. The entire Hawkins family treats him as nothing more than a "worthless freeloader," subjecting him to endless ridicule and contempt. What makes it even more unbearable is that all of his business achievements have been stolen by his ambitious brother-in-law, Marcus. Using Cole's accomplishments, Marcus has solidified his position within the Hawkins family and now enjoys all the glory and status. Meanwhile, Cole continues to live like a dog, enduring humiliation and neglect.
