Everyone believed she was hopelessly devoted to him—taking the blame for him, shielding him from harm, and willingly serving as his most humble secretary. In reality, she had approached him only because he was a substitute for her deceased lover and to fulfill her late lover’s final wish by caring for him for seven years. During those seven years, he allowed another woman to repeatedly humiliate and hurt her. From life-or-death races to skydiving, she risked her life for him time and again. But when he finally developed feelings for her, she had already accumulated enough disappointment and was determined to leave.
