Wendy cost everything she had to pay for the poor scholar Ian's study, and Ian once promised he'd marry Wendy when he achieved the First Scholar in the imperial exam. But when the day finally came, Wendy was betrayed, as she found out Ian only used her and that he had always loved her half sister Violet. Despaired, Wendy swore that she'd rather marry a beggar than Ian, and she actually did so, yet to everyone's surprise, the seemingly penniless and ragged beggar turned out to be the Crown Prince on an inspection incognito.
