Three years ago, aboard an arms freighter in the Mediterranean, Elena, an undercover legal advisor for the Federation, was exposed and captured. In the ensuing chaos, she fired a shot that sent Leo, the head of the Marseille Mafia, plunging into the sea, believing him to have perished. Three years later, the sole heir to Vance Shipping died unexpectedly, and the surviving patriarch, Silas, summoned Leo—who had made a name for himself in Marseille and controlled transnational arms capital—back to Chicago to take over the family business. No one knew that Leo’s true purpose in returning was revenge—to uproot and devour the Vance family, who had once exiled him and treated him as a cast-off; and the first thing he did was to use a hostile takeover to forcibly by means of a hostile takeover, demanding she pay for her crimes with her own blood. Elena was an orphan from the Boston orphanage fire, yet due to her trauma, she had completely forgotten everything that happened at the scene. Three years after “killing” Leo, she encountered the “resurrected” Leo, who had now become the heir to the Vance family. She desperately tried to send Leo to prison and escape, but Leo tightened the noose around her with every move. It wasn’t until a heated confrontation that Leo discovered the burn scar on her collarbone and realized that the girl who had risked her life to save him from the fire all those years ago was none other than Elena—at which point his attitude abruptly reversed. The two gradually closed in on the same truth: the fire that had burned Elena’s parents to death and nearly consumed them both had been personally ordered by Silas. With their blood feud rooted in the same source, the two—who had once been each other’s prey—finally turned their guns on their common enemy and together toppled this bloodstained empire on the shores of Lake Michigan.
