Lin Yueru, a stepmother with end-stage liver cancer, puts her paralyzed stepdaughter Su Xiao through grueling rehabilitation training on the doctor’s advice to help her walk again, only to be misjudged by passersby as an abusive guardian. Overwhelmed by despair after a near-death incident on the rooftop, Su Xiao calls the police and accuses her stepmother. On her deathbed, Lin Yueru sells her only house to pay Su Xiao’s costly rehabilitation fees and begs Su Xiao’s birth mother to look after the girl. When Su Xiao learns the truth about the house sale and her stepmother’s fatal illness, she rushes to the ward, finding Lin Yueru barely clinging to life. Weeping bitterly, Su Xiao calls out "Mom" for the first time, and Lin Yueru passes away with a gentle smile.
