Kane, a lowly bit-part actor, entered into a five-year marriage of convenience with Irene—an heiress from a wealthy family—because his features bore a striking resemblance to Luke, the "white moonlight" (unforgettable first love) of her heart; he was reduced to being a mere romantic substitute. Irene used her connections to propel Kane to stardom as a Hollywood Best Actor. For his part, driven by the obsession of having been saved by Irene in his youth, Kane devoted himself silently and humbly over those five years, even risking his life to shield her from a knife attack. However, once Luke returned from abroad, all the favoritism Kane had enjoyed vanished instantly. Irene repeatedly showed unconditional bias toward Luke: she shoved aside a severely injured Kane for his sake, tacitly allowed the internet to smear Kane’s reputation, and stripped him of top-tier film and television opportunities. Even when Irene proposed having a child via IVF to mend their relationship, Kane saw the imbalance of their bond clearly; he refused to let a child repeat his own history of growing up unloved and impoverished. Later, Luke staged a scheme to frame Kane, twisting the truth to ruin Kane’s reputation at an awards ceremony and saddling him with an astronomical breach-of-contract fine. Kane, his heart now dead to the relationship, feigned compliance to secure a divorce, then completely withdrew from the entertainment industry to live in seclusion in a small southern town. After the truth came to light, Irene had a sudden epiphany; she blacklisted Luke, cleared Kane’s name online, and rushed across the country to the small town, desperate to win him back. Ultimately, Kane found true peace and contentment in a quiet, ordinary life, while Irene—despite possessing wealth and glamour—was left with lifelong regret; they parted ways for good, their lives never to intersect again.
