Top astronomer Atticus gave up his career to be a full-time husband for Cordelia—only to find her cheating long-term with her assistant Raine, even carrying his child. Devastated, he secretly joins a one-way Mars mission, signs his death certificate, and disappears. Five years later, he returns with major scientific achievements, becomes the nation's Chief Astronomer, and has a fiancée, Audrey, who shared his hardships in space. Cordelia is left with nothing but regret.
