Five years back, the Zhang clan crushed the Lin and Mu families, staging a crash that left Mu's parents as veggies, then tanked the Lins, driving Lin's dad to suicide, and nearly offing Lin Qianye too. Mu Xuchen begged the Zhangs to spare Qianye; they filmed her in a degrading video and blackmailed her into claiming publicly that the Mus wrecked the Lins—Xuchen nodded through tears. Her lover Lin Qianye bought the lie, blamed the Mus for the Lin downfall, and tied the knot with their rivals the Zhangs for a business boost, skyrocketing Lin clan's power. Xuchen slaved as a nanny gig to gig to keep her comatose folks alive; Qianye caught wind and hired her at top dollar, so she stuck by his side—cashing paychecks for medical bills while eating his humiliation at his engagement bash.
