Born into a declining Qing-dynasty aristocratic family, Ye Qingwan, the seventh daughter of the Ye Group, is known as Shanghai’s most proper lady. Yet beneath her poised beauty lies a fierce, unhinged spirit forged by years of feudal oppression. On the very day she is sent as her sister’s replacement to a sadistic inspector notorious for killing young women, she masterminds a scheme to seduce Du Fengqi, the powerful young marshal of the northern provinces. Luring him into her web, she uses his influence to systematically destroy the corrupt Ye family. In this whirlwind romance set against the backdrop of a turbulent Republican-era Shanghai, she believes their affair is merely a calculated game of ambition—unaware that while she casts the bait, he willingly takes the hook.
