Five years ago, flight attendant Iris was forced by her father Ethan to give false testimony at an air disaster hearing—he threatened to cut off her dying mother's medication. Her first love, genius pilot Silas, took the blame and went to prison. Iris was cast out by her family and reduced to a lowly ground crew worker, hiding her terminal illness while scraping together money for her mother's treatment. Five years later, Silas returns as a legendary captain and the airline's new owner. Convinced Iris betrayed him, he uses his power to torment her—cruel shifts, public humiliation, endless abuse. Iris endures it all. When a crisis strikes, she takes the fall for Silas, causing her own health to collapse. Her father cuts off her mother's medical funds. Her mother dies. With nothing left to lose, Iris exposes the five-year-old flight data that clears Silas's name and sends her father to prison. On the day the truth comes out, Iris stops all treatment. Silas, now exonerated, is piloting a transoceanic flight at thirty thousand feet. The news of Iris's death reaches his cockpit by radio. Trapped in the sky with nowhere to go, he is forced to receive the news alone—that the woman who gave him back the skies has just died on the ground, alone.
